Direct Action fund appeal

Body

Since its inception, Direct Action has been proudly internationalist. DA draws upon the rich socialist tradition that upholds working-class international solidarity as a cornerstone of the fight for social justice for all oppressed peoples. Each issue carries articles on struggles from across the globe, from those against foreign occupation and imperialist wars to indigenous peoples’ campaigning against corporate environmental vandalism. The deepening socialist revolutions in Cuba and Venezuela are of particular international importance. They are increasingly looked upon by millions of oppressed workers and rural poor as beacons of hope for humanity, with models of development based on real equality and justice rather than the greed, waste and profits-first madness of capitalism.

During August, DA is sponsoring a tour across Australia of Venezuelan revolutionary Heryk Rangel, an eco-socialist and a member of the governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). By bringing Rangel to Australia, we hope his visit can help give a taste of the momentous changes in Venezuelan society that are impacting across Latin America and further afield. Rangel will be speaking at DA-sponsored public forums, at campus meetings organised by the Cuba-Venezuela Solidarity Clubs and the Latin America Solidarity Conference being held in Melbourne at the end of the month.

We hope that his tour will be the first of similar such tours sponsored by DA in the years to come. Being a new radical publication, though, the tour is testing our financial resources. We hope that with your help through a donation to the DA fund appeal we can help cover the tour’s costs. Last month, we launched a public appeal to raise $35,000 by the end of 2010. So far we have received $6115.

Help keep the spirit of international solidarity alive and make a donation to the DA fund appeal. You can make a donation by sending a cheque or money order to Direct Action, Suite 72, 65 Myrtle Street, Chippendale, NSW 2008 or make a donation via PayPal (through the “Donate” link on the Direct Action website).
