On August 25 Vo Nguyen Giap celebrated his 100th birthday, accompanied by tributes and well wishes from the people of Vietnam and from revolutionaries around the world.

General Giap’s many achievements include leading the decisive defeat of the French at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and masterminding the 1968 General Offensive and Uprising (or Tet Offensive) – a turning point against the US-led occupation of Vietnam.

His genius helped destroy the myth of Western invincibility and has inspired anti-imperialist struggles all around the world.
