DEBTOCRACY a film documentary about the Greek debt crisis

Today Greece faces a catastrophe. More than 800,000 Greek workers (16 percent of the workforce) are unemployed. Youth unemployment is estimated at 36 percent. The IMF, European Union and European Central Bank have demanded tough austerity measures in exchange for loans.

Like the 'structural adjustment' programs imposed on Latin America in the 1980s, these measures increase taxes on the poor, shed public sector jobs as state enterprises are privatised and cut pensions. Ordinary Greeks are paying the price for debts not of their making.
