DIRECT ACTION & NEW INTERNATIONAL BOOKSHOP PRESENT:
Palestinian Liberation and the Bid for UN Statehood
In September the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) will seek recogniton of a Palestinian state in the United Nations. Will UN recognition of Palestinian statehood be a “game changer” as some have claimed or will it do little to change the reality of Israel’s occupation and apartheid policies on the ground?
This forum will discuss the PLO’s bid for UN statehood recognition and what it means for the Palestinian struggle for national liberation and self-determination.
SPEAKERS:
Yousef Alreemawi - Palestinian academic and radio presenter. Yousef will discuss the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s (PLO) strategy for UN recognition of Statehood.
Samah Sabawi - Palestinian writer and Public Advocate for Australians for Palestine. Samah will discuss why the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s (PLO) bid for UN recognition is not enough to win Palestinian self-determination and liberation.
Kim Bullimore - Direct Action journalist and international volunteer with the International Women’s Peace Service in Palestine. Kim will look at the pros and cons of the PLO’s bid for UN recognition.
