Help us raise $35,000
By Jon Lamb
If you’ve picked-up this paper for the first time, you’ll appreciate it’s not the same as the capitalist press and street mags filled with lies, half-truths and distortions peddled as ‘news’. Unlike the media empires which perpetuate the myth that capitalism and all its associated barbarism is the best humanity can ever hope to achieve, Direct Action seeks to build a movement that eliminates the capitalist profit system. As the masthead of Direct Action declares, the paper is for socialism in the 21st century.
Direct Action was initiated in June 2008 by the Revolutionary Socialist Party, which was formed only a week earlier. At the founding congress of Revolutionary Socialist Party, held June 6–8, the inaugural Direct Action fund appeal was launched. A target of $35,000 has been set for 2009-10. Over the next 18 months, members of the RSP and supporters of Direct Action will be organising a range of political-cultural events — dinners, film nights, cultural performance, meetings and other activities — to help us continue producing Direct Action. We need your help to reach the $35,000 target. If you’re a musician or cultural performer we need your help. If you can help cater for a dinner or donate books or merchandise for a raffle, we want to hear from you. If you’ve come in to an unexpected financial windfall or a better-than-expected tax return, we hope you will think of sharing some with Direct Action.
To support the Direct Action fund appeal you can make a donation by sending a cheque or money order to Direct Action, Suite 72, 65 Myrtle Street, Chippendale, NSW 2008 or make a donation via PayPal (through the “Donate” link on the Direct Action website).
